E-commerce: the Government Perspective
E-commerce technologies have found widespread use in business and
organisations for carrying out their commercial activities such as
import/export, global sourcing and other forms of international trade
as well as domestic trade. However we haven't taken a look at the
governmental perspective on the issue. Now the government is one of
the most powerful institutions in any country regardless of the type
of market or economy in place. This is truer of places such as China
which were till recently not having open market policies but
government had heavy influence on business and commercial activities
including international trade, import/export and global sourcing
deals.
In the current times, the governments of most countries have become
aware of the overwhelming rise and use of e-commerce technologies in
the area of international trade, import/export activities and global
sourcing deals. Thus no futuristic government having the good of its
citizen at heart can afford to ignore this rising trend of e-commerce
technologies in trade and business. International trade forms a major
source of revenue for most governments and there activities such as
import/export and global sourcing cannot be left untouched from these
technologies if one has to progress in the rapidly developing world.
Therefore government in most countries are playing an active role in
encouraging and developing e-commerce and related technologies and
enhancing their usage in all forms of international trade such as
import/export and global sourcing. In fact most of the governmental
activities are themselves being carried out using electronic sources.
Most of the government departments have websites which cater to the
needs to the general public and make the relationship between the
citizen and the government more transparent and easier then before.
This is very necessary since in the current times the government also
needs to be in line with the changing trends of technology and
commerce otherwise good governance would not be possible.
Public administration is the key to driving growth and development in
a region or nation and once the government wakes up to the issue,
there remains little doubt that important activities such as
international trade, import/export and global sourcing will benefit
from the rising interest of the public administration in all countries
including China. Once this happens the greatest challenge in the
implementation of a barrier free international trade zone will be
overcome and people would be able to conduct their import/export and
global sourcing activities without much hassle. A good infrastructure
combined with a strong will to promote e-commerce will give a boost to
international trade, import/export and global sourcing all around the
globe.
